I love autumn and winter as the season of scarves, but I think a shawl can be worn all year round. There are several reasons why I love designing shawls:
- They’re a useful extra layer. Perfect when the sun goes down, there’s a chill in the air, or I’m somewhere I’d rather have my arms covered.
- They drape beautifully. A shawl can make even a simple outfit feel a little more considered.
- They’re an excuse to wear brooches! This is much overlooked, in my opinion. Brooches may seem old-fashioned to some, but I enjoy a bit of bling, however it comes.
- They’re easy to take off. Once the temperature rises, you can simply remove your shawl without having to find somewhere to put a bulky cardigan.
- They’re a wonderful creative canvas. As a maker, I have the opportunity to play with colour and texture on a much bigger palette than a scarf provides, and that makes me happy.
